Dara Santhai-Sherman was born in Manila, Philippines and grew up living in
various countries throughout southeast Asia. She began to pursue art
seriously during her high school years. After graduating, she attended Reed
College as a fine art major from 1994-96, and transferred to the San
Francisco Art Institute to receive a more concentrated artistic education.
Dara, received her Bachelors in spring of 1999 as a painting major, and has
lived in San Francisco since.
During her residency in the Bay Area, Dara has exhibited her art regularly in San Francisco galleries including Washington Square Garden, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and as well as more alternative spaces like Stormy Leather. She displays her artwork regularly at the Balazo/Mission Badlands Gallery. A published artist since adolescence, Dara's work has appeared on the cover of magazines and on albums of heavy metal bands. She designed flyers for various Bay Area rock shows, and does illustrations for magazines.
